Job Description
Service Analysis Engineer
Derby Hybrid 3 days per week onsite
37 hours per week – Full Time
Rolls-Royce are looking to add a Service Analysis Engineer to the team based in Derby.
The Service Analysis Engineer will work in the Engine Health Monitoring (EHM) Operational Support team, which is part of Engineering for Services, in the Civil Aerospace business.
The team provides vital engineering support to a wide range of departments to help with design and in‑service issues across all Civil Large Engines. Why Rolls-Royce?
Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount.
We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.
We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.
We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.
What we offer
We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
In this role, you’ll dive into real customer challenges, using data to uncover solutions that improve how our products perform in service. You’ll gain a strong understanding of engine performance from end to end, develop expertise in using engine “big data,” and see first-hand how your analysis makes a direct impact—boosting airline operational availability while helping reduce company costs.
The work is varied and rewarding, ranging from quick problem-solving tasks to long-term projects that can run over a year. You’ll build skills across multiple areas, including engine performance, component and system design, airline operations, programming, and data analysis. Flexibility is key, as priorities can shift with new challenges, but this variety keeps the role engaging and accelerates your growth as an engineer.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support Engine Project teams and/or the Major Event Centre by providing on-wing data analysis relating to in‑service events or findings in order to aid root cause investigation or service management.
- Analysis of on-wing service operation data to provide diagnosis used as basis for trouble‑shooting advice.
- Analyse on-wing service operation performance, air systems and other functional/operational data for the purpose of design input or feedback, for example Red Tops, Safety Alert Reports, Technical Life Reviews, or design improvements.
- Provide input to EHM system requirements for new engine projects
- Analyse on-wing data for life management of Critical Parts, and provide input to Group A parts life usage monitoring methods
- Support the development of engine monitoring capability through performing data analysis and providing technical buy-off of requirements and design of methods.
- Develop new and improved analysis capabilities in partnership with Civil Aerospace Digital groups and the Lifecycle Engineering EHM Capability.
Who we’re looking for:
At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
We’re looking for ambitious and curious individuals who are eager to grow their expertise and make a real impact in aerospace. Whether you have an engineering background with a passion for computer science, or a computer science degree with an interest in aerospace, you’ll thrive in this role if you’re excited to learn and apply your skills in new ways. Strong coding ability in languages such as Python, MATLAB or SQL will set you up for success, as will being self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable working in fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous environments.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Engineering degree or equivalent with experience in one or more engineering disciplines
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems
- Proactive, persistent and customer focused with a high level of self-motivation and initiative
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work with, and influence Project leaders, specialists, or peers in other functional areas.
- Capable of responding quickly to urgent requests from customers in addition to the longer term planning and technical activities
- Experience using coding languages such as Python, MATLAB or SQL is desired
- Previous whole engine experience or gas turbine performance experience is beneficial but not essential.
- It would be preferable to have an appreciation of the EHM system.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
We welcome applications from people with a refugee background.
